These three items account for 60 to 70 percent of a traditional backpacker's base weight, and they offer the largest single upgrades available. Shelter: Ultralight Options and Tradeoffs

An ultralight one-person shelter can weigh under 2 pounds with stakes and guylines. The question is how much protection and convenience you are willing to trade for that savings.
